Family Vacation Ideas - 5 must see destinations for family holidays

Everybody needs a vacation every year. Otherwise, the productivity is deeper and deeper. Studies have repeatedly shown that, in order to look at this impressive 5 family vacation ideas that you should not miss!

1. Grand Canyon. I visited the Grand Canyon several years ago and I recommend that everyone has a fantastic journey to this destination. It 'absolutely incredible. We visited the South Rim and actually took a bus from Las Vegas, about 5 hours one way it was. I must say thatThe bus ride was quite long and tedious, so if you can afford it, though, I advise you to plane or helicopter tour is the tour unless you are just driving by your home to the Grand Canyon. There are no words to describe the beauty and splendor is a sight to see with your eyes. Even the photos do not do it justice. Every family should experience at least one trip to the Grand Canyon.

2. Orlando, Florida. This is a wonderful place to visit if you have children, and -Guess what '- even if you have children! Imagine the many theme parks and activities at hand. This really is the place for your child to go to the heart. This is Disney World, Universal, Islands of Adventure, Wet n Wild, Sea World, Aquatica, and more. You literally several weeks at a decent portion of what is available to do. Definitely a must!

3. Niagara Falls. I recommend that the Canadian side. When I last visited it was the first part of March, you guysI was cold! Then I came back from Florida, so I'm sure not cold at all. But, oh my, this is another view that you saw with your own eyes. You can not just appreciate the majesty of a postcard, or even a video. No family should miss.

4. Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. If your family enjoys the big races, I absolutely recommend Cedar Point. You will not be disappointed. While I love the theme parks in Florida and I visit often, I takean annual trip to Sandusky, just because they do not hit the roller coasters there. Millennium Force is my favorite ride, but there are too many great trips mentioned. As you can also visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in the area.

5. Las Vegas, Nevada. For a while, 'have been advertising this as a family and go a very friendly place to bring your children, etc. Even if I'm not sure the'm all right, I took my son there and we all had a blast . There aremany many beautiful places to see and lots of activities and shows. Play is natural, but if you take your children, you will not find an end to the fun, you can do. A helicopter flight over the city, a visit to Hoover Dam, a visit to Red Rock Canyon near (very funny) Cirque du Soleil show (surprisingly), the factory of M & M (the kids will love it), and only amazing eyes around and seeing the fountain show in front of the hotel and just the vastSize of any hotel. I think it's a must for your list of family vacation ideas.

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning

The P-38 Lightning first flew in 1939, but it was not until 1941 that the scale of production has started. If the first hypothesis USAAF delivery was lightning is the fastest fighter in the Air Corps. Over the years of production, there were built more than a dozen models. The changes have been carrying capacity, particularly in the field of armaments or higher. The P-38L was built in the model, around 3923. The final versions of the Lightning project, the F-4 aircraft and F-5 photo-reconnaissance wereAnd aircraft were used in both European and Asian theaters of war. Some have been converted into P-38Ls Pathfinder operations with the installation of radar in the nose. Includes all variants of the P-38, there were a total of 10,037 built in all. Only seven are now thought capable of flight.

The P-38 are seen many innovations in its design. It 'was the first to use a tricycle landing gear, the only mass-produced single-seat twin-engine combat aircraft in World War II, and was the firstFighter with the ability to fly over the North Atlantic for delivery in Europe with its range non-stop from the United Nations refueling 3,000 miles when using external tanks.

The P-38 was powered by two 1475hp Allison V-12 turbo. While the network was 12,800 pounds. "It could jump to 80% of its weight to 21,600 pounds. Which they were entitled to another first to be able to carry two torpedoes. With a length of 37ft 10in, was his top speed was 52 m wingspan to 25,000414 miles an hour with a maximum operating speed of 44,000 ft of growth that has exceeded all German or Japanese fighter, the Lightning the enormous advantage of always being able to fly over the enemy.

The P-38 served with distinction in all theaters of operation in the war. He was responsible for the primary duty of Commons early in the daylight bombing campaign in Europe. It 'was the primary fighter in the Mediterranean theater, where he was nicknamed "TheFork-tailed Devil "by the pilots of the Luftwaffe and performed with excellent results in the invasion of North Africa and Italy. There are also used in harsh conditions of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska against the numerically superior Japanese during the first half of the war .

However, the P-38 will be forever linked in the South Pacific. Japanese ships and planes were constantly torn under the guns of skilled American pilots. The Japanese were never able, and the offensivewere generally on their heels. The P-38 routine bombers, fighters and ships destroyed without much loss. In fact, the average kill in 10-1. For every ten confirmed kills, only a P-38 was lost from all causes (including this one down, Lost at sea and mechanical failures).

Without doubt, the P-38 runs in a position many roles with great success. No other aircraft can boast this capability. The P-51 was a better fighter air-air, but it was noteffective strikes and ground could lead to a proper education. The B-17 and B-24 were above the long-range bomber, but the P-38 was almost able to carry the same load of bombs, fighters and become as soon as possible after the bombs fell. The P-38 was modified to carry torpedoes, turned into a night fighter, was able to dive / level bomb and was the largest survey of U.S. Air Force.

The pilots of the aircraft, loved for its maneuverability, capacity at high altitudes and long flight duration, which could reach more than 11 hours with drop tanks full. One of the most famous P-38 pilot Maj. Richard Bong, who had 40 victories, the top American Ace of WWII was reached.

One of many stories is one of the Phantom of Lightning P-38. Damaged Flying Fortresses returning from bombing in the Mediterranean theater, located behind the main formations were scattered to pilot a P-38, that would be lostnext, shaking the wings and the collet bomber crew to believe that the fighters wanted to cover the refund. The bomber gunners would relax the P-38 Phantom lead to a defensive position in front of and behind the bombers, then suddenly appear and shoot the Flying Fortress. This has happened several times before he gave the command did not believe story, but then discovered that the intelligence of a lost P-38 on the Mediterranean believed he had actually donesafe an airport in Sardinia. It 'been captured the pilot, but the plan itself was by an Italian rider, who was acquired in a position to the P-38 sample and began his career as a ghost Lightning. His career ended when a heavily armored and armed stronghold was thinking that he had another easy money and when he went to his usual position of pre-attack captured the fortress opened fire and shot him. He managed to save and was saved. An interesting footnoteis that later, at the funeral of the fortress, pilots transport plane crashed during the Berlin airlift.

How to Save Over Half on Your Summer Vacations

You've been looking back and forth at vacations and your check book for months. Even if you omit all but the necessities, there still won't be enough money to cover a family vacation. You've got the time, they've got the time, and it's going to be a long summer for all.

That's the beauty of luxury travel deals. You're able to go pretty much anywhere in the world for a fraction of the cost, and without the hassle of saving up and cutting costs wherever possible until summer is over, and then reiterating the process next year.

Luxury travels deals aren't hard to come by, but then there's the difficulty of finding a true "deal." You don't want a mediocre three day vacation. You could do that at home, for almost no cost to you. You want something memorable, something that the kids will look back on and say, "Let's go again! Let's go again!"

However, just because your vacation is discounted, doesn't mean you shouldn't get a good, quality vacation for you and your family to enjoy. It just means you get to enjoy all of the extra savings from finding such a great deal.

You don't want a deal that only provides you with a shoddy broken down hotel room either. Luxury travel deals allow you to go to room in most large hotel chains, and to choose which one you'd like to stay at. You shouldn't have to rough it.

Sometimes you have to get a travel membership in order to find luxury travel deals. These generally are cheap and don't even cost as much as your vacation will. If your discounted vacation is one fourth of a standard vacation, imagine how much your membership is at two thirds the cost of your reduced vacation!

Luxury travel deals are the way to go if you want to be going anywhere. They're budget-friendly, good quality, and a great way to take your dream vacation without leaving anyone out. And imagine how much you'd be saving on paying for a babysitter!

Tribal Aviation Has an Impact on Small Airports

Native American tribes are beginning to purchase aircraft. This may be because tribal officials and leaders are involved in more travels out of area for meetings and conferences. Tribes have also taken to lobbying which may necessitate frequent trips to Washington, DC. Then add to those needs that most tribes reside a good distance from a major airport, and simply boarding a flight may add up to half a day (or more) in additional travel time to just getting to and from the airport. A tribe possessing its own airplane or jet can take travelers to a gathering a great deal faster. Naturally, the biggest issue is the politics. Even corporate CEO's are under fire for flying in private jets.

Some tribes are trying to make air travel more accessible to everyone. Rural airports serve tribes located in rural areas. In rural airports there might not be sufficient travelers to warrant routine commercial service. However, tribes using their Bureau of Indian Affairs transportation money for aviation and leveraging Congressional help for rural airport projects have been able to establish some form of regular commercial service in their area.

An example of a tribe that both owns private aircraft and working for a regional airport is the Chickasaw Nation based in Ada, Oklahoma. The tribe has owned private aircraft for a while and is leveraging that usage with the Ada Municipal Airport. Recently, the airport commission added two seats for Ada's airport most frequent users, which were the Chickasaws, and the other seat was for Pre-Paid Legal Services.

This appointment has been no mere honorary appointment. The Chickasaw Nation is having an impact in who operates the airport as its fleet of jets uses Jet-A fuel. They want to make sure the operator carries Jet-A fuel (fuel for jets) in addition to 100 low lead fuel or Avgas (fuel for airplanes). It is this form of impact that tribal aviation can have on a regional airport. By carrying jet fuel the Ada airport can serve more aircraft and support regular commercial service. Without the Chickasaw Nation and Pre-Paid Legal jets, the airport would only need to carry fuel for airplanes, relegating the airport to another small town airstrip.

Military Helicopter Pilot Careers

A career flying military helicopters offers excitement, challenge, and adventure. Military helicopter missions include transporting troops and equipment, anti-submarine warfare, troop helicopter escort, anti-armor, reconnaissance, and inserting/extracting special operations personnel.

The US Army is the largest operator of helicopters within the US military. A career as an Army Aviator will give you access to some of the most advanced helicopters in the world. Army aviators fly AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters, CH-47 Chinook heavy lift helicopters, UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopters, OH-47 Kiowa scout/light attack helicopters and the MH-6/AH-6 Loach special operations helicopters.

The US Navy uses helicopters for a wide variety of missions. Pilots who fly SH-60 Sea Hawks track submarines. MH-53 Sea Stallion pilots detect and clear mines in advance of ship traffic. Navy helicopter pilots who fly CH-46 Sea Knights specialize in transporting personnel and equipment.

The US Marine Corps uses the helicopter extensively. In fact the Marines invented and developed vertical envelopment warfare (using helicopters to rapidly move troops to key tactical and strategic positions). The AH-1Z Cobra is used to provide support to Marines on the ground. The CH-46 Sea Knight is used for tactical assaults and the CH-53E Super Sea Stallion is used for heavy lift. The Marines also fly a modernized version of the UH-1 Huey, a helicopter made famous during the Vietnam War, on utility and VIP missions.

The US Air force uses HH-60 Blackhawks for combat search and rescue and MH-53E Super Stallions for deep insertions and extractions of special operations troops.

Though not technically a member of the US armed forces, Coast Guard Aviators have a strong history of flying and fighting alongside the US military in times of conflict. The Coast Guard's primary roles are homeland security, law enforcement and search and rescue. They fly three types of helicopters. The HH-65 Dauphin is a short-range rescue helicopter. The HH-60 Jay Hawk is a medium/long range rescue helicopter and the MH-68 Stingray is an armed interdiction aircraft.

Military helicopter pilots have very rewarding careers. They fly with and support some of the best people this nation has to offer. The road to a career as a military helicopter pilot isn't easy but it's certainly within reach of anyone who has the commitment and the desire to succeed.

Flight Delayed or Cancelled, Know Your Options

If your flight is cancelled or delayed for reasons other than weather, Rule 240 states that the airline should put you on the next available flight to your destination at no extra charge, even that means using another carrier.

Many ticket / counter agents are not familiar with Rule 240, and most will not offer it. It is up to you to inform them. Politely ask for a Supervisor if necessary, and be aware that Rule 240 may vary slightly based on the airline carrier.

Always remember to be polite, respectful and patient regardless of the circumstances. The ticket agent is not responsible for the delay, but that person could be your hero in the event of unexpected delays.

Rule 240 only applies for factors that are within the airline carrier's control.

Rule 240 applies in the event of Mechanical Problems, Misconnection, Substitution of Equipment or Class of Service, Schedule Change that requires you to be rerouted, Lack of Airline Crew, Schedule Change and Overbooked flights ("bumped").
Rule 240 does not apply in the event of Force Major events like weather, strike, labor disputes, civil commotions, war, government regulation, airport is closed, fuel shortage or "Acts of God".
If you are delayed more than Four Hours between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM, you may be entitled to Hotel Accommodations, unless it is your home city of departure. This may include additional amenities at the discretion of the airline carrier as necessary for the safety and welfare of unaccompanied minors, senior citizens or disabilities.

It is important to note that specific language for Rule 240 varies by airline, and only applies for US domestic travel.

Print and keep a copy of Rule 240 in your carry-on bag, use only if necessary.

Share this information with other frequent flyers and business associates.

You can review and print your Free Copy of Rule 240 at http://www.executiveblueprints.com/traveltips.htm

Getting Your PPL - Where to Begin & Pick the Best Simulators

At your local airport, you are going to meet people who fly and know how to go about learning to fly. They will be able to give you the absolute best and accurate advice in regard to getting your PPL.

Think about it. Are you going to ask your Uncle Horace, or some guy who has been flying for 25 years?

Airports are where the action is at. That's where you begin.

How Good Are Simulators...Really?

Let's cut through the crap and get real here. No flight simulators are going to give you the actual experience of flying an airplane.

Having said that, after doing quite a bit of research on this subject and getting the opinions of experts, there are a number of flight simulators out there that are quite good.

Here are the best of the best:

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Say what you want about Microsoft. Yeah, they create a lot of crappy products and their OS leaves a lot to be desired, whether it's Vista or whatever. But their flight simulator is hands down the best in the industry.

Flyit Simulator

They call it the new standard in aviation training. Flyit offers FAA approved fixed wing and rotorcraft Flight Simulation Devices for flight training; desktop control panels, motion platforms, cockpits, display systems, and complete simulation environments. Fixed wing, rotorcraft and Flight Training Devices for general aviation, commercial, and military aircraft..

Elite Simulation Solutions

If you want the very best hardware for your simulator, this is the place to go.

There you have it, the best of the best as far as flight simulation.

Night Time Flying Tips

Well, at this point I have approximately 12 hours left to meet my minimum of 40 hours in the cockpit. At that point, I'll be eligible to take my checkride. My instructor feels that I can do it in 40 hours, though the national average is 55 hours. As a personal goal, I'm going to shoot for 40.

So far, we've covered:

the traffic pattern
power on/off stalls
slow flight
steep turns
short-field take-offs and landings
slips to landing
go-arounds
navigation via dead-reckoning and VOR
tower/radio communications
and misc. ground training on airspaces, weather etc...

I've learned a lot. All of which will be used in preparation for the next and last big milestone - night flying.

Night flying is a brand new animal. In the dark, you look like you're going slower than normal and pilots tend to speed up when they don't need to.

Depth perception is also very poor at night. Dim runways might give the illusion that the runway is farther away than it is. Bright runways might give the illusion that the runway is closer than it actually is.

You also have an issue with finding a new airport for the first time at night. Street lights can look like a runway and many pilots have come in for a landing, only to find no runway waiting for them.

One trick to night flying is to use your peripheral vision. Because of the way rods and cones work in our eyes, looking straight at an object in the dark actually gives us less detail than if we looked at it from the side.

Some things are good at night though. For one, there is less air traffic. For another, aircraft are required to use lighting which actually makes them easier to spot at night than in the day.

Stop Drop and Roll - Effective Fire Prevention That's Also Fun

Children ages 4 years and younger are among those at highest risk for residential fire deaths and injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). So, it's our job as parents and teachers to teach them what to do in case of a fire.

I heard a story recently about an older child whose clothes caught on fire. There was a swimming pool in the backyard, so he ran and jumped in the pool. While the water seemed like the best idea at the time, in fact, the time he took running to the pool, actually helped the fire burn stronger. Instead, had he stopped, dropped, and rolled, he would have ended up with less severe burns.

It is a scary thought to talk to our toddlers about fire, yet we must. In our three year old classroom, we talk about fire safety in a non-threatening way that the kids actually enjoy. First, the teachers model for the children a scenario, and then the kids take a turn. We say, "Oh, no, there is fire on my pants. What should I do? I need to stop, drop, and roll." We act it out repeatedly. Each child gets to stand up and tell us where the fire is on their clothes, and what they will do to put it out. They stop, drop, and roll around the floor.

We also talk about the loud bell that goes off if there is a fire. Yes, it can be very loud, and scary, but it is an important bell. It tells us that we must stop whatever we are doing and get out of the building. We don't stop to clean up toys. We don't stop to finish our snack. We don't worry about turning off the TV. What we have to do is line up at the door and together walk outside of the building. We practice this with the kids, encouraging them to help us make the loud noise of the fire alarm.

Our school has fire drills monthly, so we try to do this right at the beginning of the school year so the kids aren't freaked out the first time the alarm unexpectedly goes off. Some kids will be afraid no matter how much you try to practice, but safety is the most important thing. Don't assume that your toddler won't understand. Teach him and he will know what to do in an emergency.

Amazing Sound Recordings in Movies

Before 1927, movie audiences did not enjoy the rich quality of films which had authentic sound recordings to enhance the film. The Jazz Singer opened a new era in film making by bringing sound to the screen. Naturally, critics had their say in terms of expecting failure; however, the use of sound in film has revolutionized movie making and continues to this day. As a result, sound track has enhanced the emotional involvement of audiences. On the other hand, silence in films has accentuated dramatic effects. Specific sound also has a symbolic effect in films; likewise, some particular sounds are used repeatedly; cliché may be identified in soundtracks; and above all, sound tracks are used to strengthen the narrative in films.

Prior to 1927, the pit orchestra was used to mask background and production sounds in films. As a result, emotional involvement was not as in depth as in the present. For example, the soundtrack "Ride of the Valkyries" played in Apocalypse Now during the attack of the Vietnamese village enhances the emotional involvement of the audience. Additionally, the soundtrack "Susie Que," played during the GI USO Show where the soldiers tried to take over the events and jumped on the helicopter with the singing females, also enhances the emotional involvement of the audience.

The symbolic use of sound effects as agony was shown in The Pianist with the beating and screaming of the young boy crawling under the wall. The screams are symbolic of the agony experienced by the Jews behind the wall.

Repeated use of particular sounds was evident with the shooting of machine guns. The films, Apocalypse Now, and The Pianist, have the same sound of the machine gun fire. The guns had the same rate of fire and never ran out of bullets. Additionally, the sound of the street cars and the hoofs of horses pulling the carts in The Pianist were repetitious and sounded the same. Apocalypse Now also had the repeated sound of the helicopter blades in several of the scenes which were the same.

The use of sound tracks also strengthens the narratives instead of weakening them. For example, in The Pianist, the whistling sound of tanks firing at the building where he was hiding, thus leaving holes in the walls for his escape strengthens the narrative. In Apocalypse Now, the sound track "Ride of the Valkyries" strengthens the narrative of the attack on the Vietnamese village. Finally, the use of soundtracks creates different images in the minds of some audiences from the structure of the music while enhancing the narrative.

Beginning with the Jazz Singer movie in 1927, sound in films has produced a new quality of enjoyment for movie audiences. Sound has brought about a new era in film making which is one of the richest qualities of movie enjoyment for all audiences. It is continually growing in every aspect of film making, and has produced wonderful moments for audiences to reflect on in a positive way.

Airline Tickets - To Insure or Not to Insure

All of the major travel agencies provide options for protecting your non-refundable ticket. However, that may not be what you need considering the limitations. More comprehensive travel insurance may fit your needs better.

After working hard for your vacation and looking forward to it for so long, what happens when you've purchased the least expensive non-refundable tickets and you have an unforeseen emergency that prevents you from making your trip? Unless you have purchased ticket-protector insurance, you're probably stuck. Continental, Northwest and America West airlines as well as several travel web sites offer such insurance.

Now, you may still be stuck, depending on the particular policy and the situation that prevented you from making your flight. Travel expert and author, Ed Perkins, calls ticket-protector insurance a "lite" version of trip-cancellation and trip-interruption insurance. Perkins says, "Instead of buying insurance that covers all your bases, like your hotel, car rental or most anything else, you are solely protecting your flight."

For years, several online travel companies have offered ticket-protector insurance. For about 4% of your ticket price you can be covered up to $3,000. However, before you purchase this insurance, you need to know exactly what is covered and what is not.

It is essential to understand exactly what the covered reasons are, as it could mean the difference between receiving a full refund and having to absorb the cost yourself. Covered reasons typically include medical emergencies, car accidents, terrorist attacks, airline delays or cancellations, natural disasters, death of traveler or family member, adverse weather, airline strikes and jury duty. Be careful, though, as those reasons may have narrower definitions than you would expect.

As an example, a sudden heart attack or debilitating injury would be covered. However, an existing condition such as epilepsy would not be covered even if you have a seizure two days before departure which prevents you from traveling. That condition is already being treated and therefore would not be covered under your ticket-protector insurance.

Adverse weather conditions do not include conditions that are "expected". For example, if you are traveling to a hurricane-prone area and a Category 4 hurricane is predicted to hit your destination days before your arrival, you will not receive a refund unless the airline cancels the flight or the airport is closed.

While labor strikes are covered reasons, you already have some protection on that front. There is a law requiring airlines to honor competitors' tickets in the event of a strike or shutdown. However, this law only applies in the United States. It does not cover international airports.

Critics of ticket-protector insurance argue that the coverage is too limited because unforeseen situations are very often not covered. If a person truly has a non-refundable, non-reusable ticket, the insurance may come in handy. However, no one knows their circumstances ahead of time and if there is a problem with the coverage, the insurance company usually wins.

Ticket-protector insurance should only be purchased under limited circumstances say consumer advisers. Airlines are sometimes criticized for prohibiting refunds and then selling insurance to provide those refunds. The airlines respond that providing the insurance gives travelers more choice.

So, is a traveler better off with ticket-protector insurance or more comprehensive travel insurance? While ticket-protector insurance covers only the flight, travel insurance generally covers all aspects of your trip. Chances are that whatever causes a person to miss their flight is also going to cause them to miss their whole trip, or at least necessitate changes across the board, i.e. car rental, hotel reservations, entertainment tickets, etc. A consumer must weigh all factors involved in making the decision on which insurance to purchase, if any.

A Look at the Business of Private Jet Charter

In the 1950s airline travel was deemed a luxury as very few people traveled overseas. Travel by aircraft was expensive and the operations set up to service the needs of those that did utilize this new method of transport, didn't enjoy the economies of scale the likes of British Airways and Lufthansa enjoy today. Aircraft were subject to weight limitations and thus in many cases, luggage was sent independently on another aircraft, ahead of the passengers. Waiting staff were included on these early airline flights to ensure that the service was similar to that experienced on the luxury liners of the day. Some aircraft even carried projectors to show in flight entertainment.

These days technology has opened up this business to the masses and much of the developed world would consider air travel as the primary solution in traveling overseas. These increased volumes have reached the stage whereby the business has become a victim of its own success. Airports are full to capacity, security queues are lengthy and tedious and competition is such that airlines no longer look at setting themselves apart on service. They are setting themselves apart on cost, and in doing so are reducing the level of service. This has almost certainly fueled increased demand in the air charter market. Those travelers lucky enough to have the resource to travel by private jet do so for one or all of the following reasons:

1. They don't waste precious time checking in 2 to 3 hours before a flight departs.
2. Departure time is dictated by the passenger, not by the aircraft operator.
3. Smaller airports can be used by Private Jets, thus there is less congestion at these facilities.
4. Travelers can take an aircraft from airports closer to home, and arrive at airports closer to their intended destination.
5. The on board service is tailored to the needs of the passengers.
6. Business passengers are often subjected to strict meeting timetables. Private jets can exercise more flexibility in terms of timings and destinations, thus a 3 day trip on a scheduled airline could be squeezed into a one day trip on business jet.
7. Celebrity passengers can retain an element of privacy away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.
8. Many private jets now have Wi-Fi facility on board as well as telephone equipment. Thus even time in the air can be productive which is useful if embarking on a 7 hour flight from London to New York.

In essence the majority find it obscene that individuals can justify so much expense by flying on Private Jets or helicopters. There is no doubting that it is expensive but where there is a market for such a service, should it be mocked? If we take a step back to look at the jobs and wealth created from pilots and flight attendants through to airport staff, engineers, insurers, cleaners and catering suppliers. There are private jet travelers who may spend £20k a year on flying private charter, and there are those who spend millions. What we have to consider is that all of this money goes back into the economy which is more that can be said for the £billions used in taxpayer bailouts of the banks.

Then there are the environmental factors. Of course this is a huge concern because of the irreversible nature of these effects. Many firms however, have embarked on initiatives to offset their carbon impact. I am personally not a great fan of the schemes that donate a percentage to a fund that doesn't appear to do much environmental work, but there are some that plant trees for every X amount of air miles flown. We also have to consider the massive increase in fuel efficiencies that aero engine designers now make a priority in all of their research work. Private Jets are subject to much less delay than their airline counterparts and so, generally speaking, contribute significantly less environmental impact.

Essentially this is a market that is set to grow as the mainstream airline services continue to chase cost cuts and deal with passenger numbers increasing at a faster rate than the infrastructure can cope with. Bombardier in collaboration with GAMA (General Aviation Manufacturers Association) forecast that over the next 10 years there will be demand for 9950 aircraft at a total revenue of $228 billion. This is up from $104 billion in the previous 10 years. Bombardier's closest rival Gulfstream had an unprecedented response to its G650 launch with 100 firm orders received within three months.

These firm orders to date now stand at 200. In addition to the firm orders, JP Morgan analysts confirm that Gulfstream have a further 400 letters of intent to date. Such success has led Bombardier CEO, Pierre Beaudoin, to announce their intentions to develop a flagship aircraft with 7000 nautical mile range. Even in the midst of the downturn, it is evident from aircraft shipment data that the Private Jet market is displaying resilience. In the first 3 quarters of 2009, 615 business jets have been shipped globally with Bombardier leading the revenue figures at $3.95 billion.

Whilst there are movie stars who need to attend a film launch tour, pop stars with concerts in different cities every night, and business men that need to undertake meetings in the same day, thousands of miles apart, then there will always be demand for Private air charter. Maybe the increase in numbers utilizing private jets will give rise to more opportunity, greater accessibility and increased competition for future private travelers.

Big Family, Big Move

Empty Nest

After over twenty years of hugging; laughing; attending church; doing homework; going to gymnastics, horse, and piano lessons; volunteering; working on the farm together; getting through the tough times; canning fruit;... the children were gone. Undoubtedly, a big change was in the air. I can't even cook for less than 4 people! And sure enough, the presence of God and His extended family became more real, more tangible and inspiring.

During our twenty-five years of marriage, my husband and I had schooled ourselves to change for the better. We had to. For fifteen of those years we were licensed foster parents and the many different children who came to live with us were so individually unique, we were required to continuously transform our mental attitudes, and actions so as to meet their needs and wants. Not to mention the necessary modifications we owed our own two daughters.

We lived and worked on our apple and cherry orchard. The farm was a haven, providing successful therapy for the foster children.

Two years ago, the girls were away at college and Bryan (who we've practically adopted) was living with us while he settled securely into college life. Admittedly, the farm had served its purpose and because God's purpose expands, instead of diminishes; it felt natural to make a change. We let our foster license expire and we put the farm up for sell. The orchard sold in five days.

What to do now?

Pray.

We had become fairly efficient at changing for the better concerning the household and children, but now we basically had no house and no children! Or so it seemed. Thankfully, prayer effectively reveals what is beyond the seeming.

We still had children. And, the buyer of the orchard was generous, permitting us to live in the house. Of course, the buyer knew we would not take advantage of his generosity, so we began seriously looking for another house.

We looked at many houses to buy. We looked at many places to live. Nothing clicked.

Finally, we signed a rental lease in the city where our youngest daughter was finishing her last year of college. We picked up short term jobs, met wonderful people, and visited different churches. Our oldest daughter visited from California. Fortunately, the rental house was only a few hours away from where we previously lived, making it easier to visit Bryan. This last year proved "empty nest" not to be meaningless, but full of meaning, of increased purpose.

When I look at the children, I see an on-going expanse. I have never missed their younger years, because the essence of every day of their lives is still vibrant. The innocence of their babyhood, the peacefulness, receptivity, and joy has expanded with the changes. Growth includes all those qualities plus maturity, creativity, wisdom, strength, purpose, and so on. I attribute this spiritual, and healing, understanding to what Christ Jesus taught, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden...Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your father who is in heaven." (Matt. 5:14 16)

During this last year, we found a plot of land on which to build a house. Three thousand miles away. When we told the girls, they rolled their eyes and smiled. Bryan had skepticism, but he made great effort to trust that we will not leave him. To top it off, my husband and I decided to sell everything and drive our motorcycles three thousand miles to our new hill.

We arrived here a few months ago. The motorcycle trip was indescribably perfect. We are now renting a house until the new house is complete. We have great neighbors. We have visited some wonderful churches. We have jobs. Our daughters have both visited and love it. Bryan has a plane ticket to come visit when his fall college quarter is finished.

The culture is different, but it encourages a sense of grace. God has provided the strength to adjust appropriately when a glitch presents itself. We need to keep praying. However, this particular change affirms that the world is small. Not unimportant small, but available, accessible. God's world is full of beauty and opportunity. God's nest, and the light of it, is happy, prominent, touching, radiant, healing, and inclusive. Our family is big. Light is everywhere; the light of compassion, responsibility, and courage, all of which direct thought to glorify our Father-Mother God, Love.
